Genre Research~ Our Genre

Hey Blog! My group and I decided to choose the thriller genre. We chose this genre just because we think it’d the most interesting. All of the members in the group chose thriller as well. It should be easy and fun to create. We’re planning on making it at Jayda’s house and going for a stalker/ simulation storyline.
Choosing to create a thriller for our short film was a decision based on several factors. The thriller genre provides a versatile platform to explore suspense, mystery, and psychological tension within a limited time frame, making it well-suited for a short film format. It allows us to captivate our audience quickly and maintain a high level of engagement throughout the narrative. Moreover, the thriller genre inherently lends itself to creative storytelling, enabling us to experiment with non-linear structures, unexpected twists, and visual symbolism. These elements not only align with our artistic vision but also offer an exciting challenge for our filmmaking skills, pushing us to think outside the conventional narrative boundaries. Also from a production standpoint, a thriller allows for efficient use of resources. The confined settings and focused storytelling characteristic of thrillers often translate into more manageable filming locations and a streamlined production process. This pragmatic approach ensures that we can execute our vision effectively within the constraints of our class project. And, the thrill and suspense associated with the genre make the filmmaking process more exciting and dynamic. It offers opportunities to play with various cinematic techniques, such as sound design, lighting, and camera angles, creating a visually compelling and emotionally charged experience for our audience. So, opting for a thriller for our short film not only aligns with our creative aspirations but also presents a practical and thrilling challenge, making the filmmaking process both enjoyable and feasible within the context of our class project.
